Grieg Lodge Library



The Grieg Lodge Library is housed in historic Norse Hall in Portland, Oregon. Recently restored, this facility contains an extensive collection of Norwegian language literature as well as many English language materials related to Norway. You may search this collection by keyword, title, author and subject using the pull-down menu and text box at the top of this page. In our catalog the call number designation (Nor) indicates Norwegian text while (Eng) indicates at least some English text. The library collection circulates to Lodge members and is available for in-house use by other interested individuals. The library is open on Tuesday afternoons as well as during Lodge sponsored events. The cataloging of our collection is a work in progress. We are making frequent additions and updates.

LIBRARY EVENTS CALENDAR

Book Discussion Group This lively group meets monthly, in the library on the second Saturday. Discussions focus on books by both classic and modern Norwegian authors. New members are always welcome. NEXT MEETING: Saturday, September 11, at 2 P.M. We will discuss - Dina’s Book, by Herbjorg Wassmo. Set on the coast of Norway in the late 1800’s, a horrific childhood accident haunts and changes the life of Dina, the sheriff’s daughter.

Genealogy Support Group This group meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 2-4 P.M. We are working on the Sons of Norway Cultural Skills Unit that pertains to genealogy. Those who complete unit work are recognized by Sons of Norway International. These units are an excellent introduction to genealogical research. Our experience level ranges from novice to expert.
