SOAR (Shakespeare Online Authorship Resources) is a catalog/database owned and managed by the New England Shakespeare Oxford Library. As of January 2010 the catalog contains 150 records from its "beta" mode of the past year. In the next six months approximately 500 more records will be added, mostly covering articles from Oxfordian publications of the past 70 years (e.g. the Shakespeare Fellowship News-letter and the Shakespeare Fellowship Quarterly, the Shakespearean Authorship Review, the Bard, the De Vere Society Newsletter, the Shakespeare Oxford Society newsletters (1965-present), and Shakespeare Matters (the newsletter of the new Shakespeare Fellowship)). Eventually, selected articles from other authorship publications supporting alternative candidates such as Marlowe, Bacon, etc. will be added.

The catalog will also include Shakespeare authorship-related articles and essays first published on various websites on the Internet, and a number of entries for online versions of original manuscripts, letters and other documents relating to the Shakespeare authorship question in general, Shakespeare texts and studies, and Elizabethan literature, politics and history.

All SOAR catalog records include both basic bibliographic information about an article, plus a brief abstract and/or an excerpt from the article itself.

Where any article or document is available on the World Wide Web (either through open public access or by subscription), a link is present in the record to take the user directly there. For material owned by the New England Shakespeare Oxford Library in print, library members may request a copy from the library.

Memberships: You can help in building and maintaining the SOAR catalog by supporting the New England Shakespeare Oxford Library through a paid membership or by making a donation. Membership not only helps us with the real costs of running two separate catalogs online, but will also entitle you to be provided with scanned copies of articles not available online. In addition members in the Boston (MA) area may request loans of books listed in our NESOL catalog.
