FROM OUR LIBRARY

If you have seen pictures of Jerusalem's ancient temple site you may have wondered what it looked like in the days of Herod the Great, or even Solomon. How were 80 ton block stones moved to the top of 100 foot high walls? Leen and Kathleen Ritmeyer's book, Secrets of Jerusalem's Temple Mount, systematically reconstructs the Mount like a detective would with scraps of evidence. This thin book provides pictures and tinted drawings to help us sort through the centuries of building and destruction. I believe the authors did a convincing job of answering the questions of the curious. Library call #933

The book, Imm Mathilda, is a sobering look at life through the eyes of an American born mother living in occupied Bethlehem. The hard reality of an Israeli occupation brings daily uncertainty, poverty and even the threat of death. Allison Nassar's diary does not hide her thoughts. She longs for peace, struggles with hate and questions her own motives. This is a good book to read if you are interested in a Palestinian point of view. Call number 956.9405

Rabbi Paul is author Bruce Chilton's excellent account of the life of Paul of Tarsus. He uses the historical and cultural setting of Paul's day as well as the biblical account, to explain Paul - his purpose, conflicts and relationships - to other believers and his struggles with those who opposed the fledgling new religion. The intellectual writing reads much like a novel, bringing Paul alive in the mind of this reader. Call #225.92
