The Grieg Lodge Library
is housed in historic Norse
Hall in
Portland, Oregon. The library
contains
an extensive collection of
Norwegian-language
literature, as
well as many English-language
materials
related
to Norway. You can search this collection by
keyword,
title,
author, or subject using the pull-down menu
and text box
at
the top of this page.
In our catalog the call number designation (Nor) indicates Norwegian text, while (Eng) indicates at least some English text. The library collection circulates to lodge members and is available for in-house use by other interested individuals. The library is open on Tuesdays from 2:30 until 5:30 p.m and appointments are encouraged. Contact the librarian, Astri Grieg Fry, at grieglodge.librarian@gmail.com or 503-726-8391. Please note: The library is closed in July and August. In the event of inclement weather, it will also remain closed, as well as during the December Holiday break. The cataloging of our collection is a work in progress. We make frequent additions and updates. |

Book Selections: Please see the Grieg
Notes newsletter for book selection updates. Norwegian Conversation Group: Come listen to and practice Norsk! All levels and ages are encouraged to drop by to listen and speak Norwegian to their level of comfort. We meet on the second Monday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Participants range from absolute beginners to native speakers with lots of people in between. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking, it is OK to simply listen. For more information contact Erik Brakstad at erik@hevanet.com 503-449-0818. Old Norse Conversation Group: Have you ever wondered about the origin of the modern Norwegian language? It derives from Old Norse, and modern Icelandic is almost the same as Old Norse. At the Old Norse Conversation Group, we will practice speaking Icelandic in an informal setting and will talk about culture, grammar and vocabulary, some history, and current events. We meet every 4th Thursday from 6:30-8:30 pm, at Norse Hall in the library. For more information please contact Nord Njordur F. Winnan at njordurfw@aol.com.
