Welcome to the Library of the Schumacher Center for a New Economics, formerly E. F. Schumacher Society. Housed in South Egremont, Massachusetts, the library is a 15,000 volume collection of materials focusing on the viability of ecologically and socially responsible economies. Established in 1990 to meet the growing need for a research library to preserve and make accessible the rich tradition of economic innovation, the library has become home to a number of special collections and archives. The library collection, cataloged by donor and subject, may be searched here, providing a unique tool for individuals researching the literature of a new economics. At the heart of the library are the personal books of Dr. Fritz Schumacher, author of "Small Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered."
