Holden Forests and Gardens Library Catalog
Welcome to the Holden Forests and Garden Library catalog. In 2014, the Holden Arboretum and Cleveland Botanical Garden merged to become Holden Forests and Gardens. In a continuing effort to consolidate resources and provide easier access, the libraries at each institution have been combined into one catalog. The two libraries have 15,000 books and 20 journal subscriptions relating to trees and shrubs, gardening, horticulture, ecology, woodlot management, forest farming, sustainability, and plant conservation.

The Corning Library at the Holden Arboretum places special emphasis on trees, shrubs, and native plants of Northeast Ohio whereas the Squire Library at Cleveland Botanical Garden features urban and general gardening. The Corning Library also maintains a rare book collection of 500 titles (1000 volumes) which is housed in a separate climate controlled room. This collection is open by appointment to researchers and others with a special interest in historical horticulture.

Open Hours
The libraries are primarily volunteer-staffed, so hours may not be consistent. Call ahead for most accurate hours. We endeavor to be open at the following times:
  • Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sun: 1-4pm
  • Sat 10-4pm
In addition, the Corning Library is open but unstaffed during business hours of the Arboretum. Check books out with Guest Services at the front desk when Corning is unstaffed.

Circulation Policies
All current members of HF&G, as well as staff, interns, and volunteers may borrow library materials. Membership cards will be honored at either location. Items can be retrieved and sent to either location within 5 business days. Items may be returned to either library.

Library items circulate for three weeks and can be renewed by phone or through e-mail. Up to 10 items can be checked out at any given time. Historical and special collections as well as reference books are maintained for researchers and those who have a particular interest in certain botanical and horticultural books. For those who wish to have special access to the rare book collection at Corning Library, please call to make an appointment.

If a patron has overdue items they will not be able to check out additional items. While we do not have late fees, please endeavor to return your items on time.
